Valero and the Customer Service Wait

Who among us hasn’t had to wait on the phone for at least a few minutes when it came to some sort of customer service need?

Sometimes those waits might only be for 30 seconds and, other times, those waits might be much longer than that.

No matter what the situation might be, it’s a fact that those waits on the phone can affect the perception that customers have on a particular company.

As a business that offers live help to other customers, Valero conducted a survey to find out just what people thought about those phone waits and how long they feel an acceptable amount of time is.

The story about the customer service survey can be seen here. The results show that customers expect waits to be short, if they are willing to tolerate them at all.

This insight can go a long way toward giving companies some strong insight into who is willing to wait and how long they are willing to do so. That, in turn, can give them some insight into just what they need to do to retain customers over the long run.

Parking Panda Wins Startup Weekend

At the 2011 edition of the Baltimore Startup weekend, Parking Panda beat out its competitors by coming up with a business plan for a Smartphone application that makes it easier for people to find parking in major metropolitan areas.

In just a year’s time, this Baltimore technology company has expanded its services to additional cities like Washington DC, Philadelphia, and San Francisco by filling a niche that tens of thousands of people would love to have addressed.

Given how prominent Smartphones are now and the usefulness for an application that finds parking, it’s easy to see just how a company like Parking Panda could take off and reach the point that it has in only a year.

As it catches on, it’s not hard to imagine that things will only grow from there.
