Earthquake Hits Maryland

Maryland EarthquakeWaking up this morning to my house shaking was a surprise!

I thought an airplane was flying low, but it lasted too long to be that.

For the few of you who do not know, an earthquake with a magnitude of 3.6 hit a wide area of Maryland this morning at 5:04.

It’s epicenter was confirmed to be located in Rockville.

Any Damage?

The earthquake was felt from Rockville, to as far north as parts of Carroll County, but was mild.

At this time, there are no reports of any damages to roofs, homes or streets.

Luckily, since the earthquake was smaller, there will probably be no reports in the next few hours —

Just minor objects falling off shelves and a broken glass or two falling from cabinets.

Can You Imagine…

Even though the earthquake was mild, it shook my house pretty well.

I can only imagine what it is like to live in an area like California —

Where BIG earthquakes occur.

I can understand now why you see so much damage from these earthquakes.

You always see why people are cleaning up debris in the streets, and need to get their homes remodeled after a big quake.

My house shook pretty well from a small earthquake… I can tell that it can be a scary experience for a bigger one!

Your Thoughts…

And also, does anyone else find it strange or a little alarming that this is the second earthquake that has been felt in parts of Maryland in the past month?

Just last month an earthquake that occurred in the lower part of Canada was reported to be felt all the way down in upper Maryland.

Could this be a sign of more earthquakes on the east coast, and specifically Maryland, in the coming years???

  1. Washington DC. A 3.6 earthquake isn’t a REAL quake! Visit the west coast once in a while.
